Competition Snowboarding | Joanie Anderson
Wednesday Mar 07, 2018
Wednesday Mar 07, 2018
In this episode, Dr. Greg Lane interviewed Joanie Anderson, former X games gold medalist in snowboarding. Joanie grew up home-schooled in a large family in South Lake Tahoe. Her classroom was the mountains, so Joanie and her sisters naturally became competitive snowboarders. Joanie was eleven when she won her first national championship and continued to win nationals for many years following. When she was 16, Joanie was invited to join the U.S. Junior National Team. She won her first Junior World title in New Zealand in 2002, and the following year in Germany. At 17, she competed in her first X Games- competing in both boardercross and halfpipe. Joanie competed in X Games for eight consecutive years, winning a silver medal in 2006, gold in 2007, and bronze in 2010 in boardercross. At the 2009 Olympic test event in Vancouver, she dislocated her hip during a time trial run. That event began her phasing out of competitive snowboarding and into her next adventure as a student of Chinese Medicine at Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. Dr. Lane and Ms. Anderson talked about Joanie’s experience with diet, exercise, yoga, and other methods she relied on to become a champion.
